Agriculture: Sign Up For Livestock News, Events and Training Opportunities

Do you have cattle, sheep, lamb, hogs and poultry in your farm or homestead? Are you interested in training opportunities to improve your livestock enterprise to be more profitable? Due to not having an OSU livestock faculty member here in Lincoln County, OSU and the Cattlemen’s Association have come together to help in local trainings and workshops to help our livestock farmers manage their farms. As part of this strategy, they also want to develop an up -to date email list where they can periodically send training session information even in surrounding counties to the livestock farmers so they can choose whether or not to attend depending on topic and their interest in that topic.

Examples of some of the training sessions farmers will be emailed include the following:
1.New pasture and range weeds and new chemical and non -chemical control options
2.K-line Pasture Irrigation
3. Ultrasound clinic-for collecting carcass data on live animals (purebred bulls and heifers)
4. The economics of immunization of livestock
5. Brucellosis in cattle, sheep and goats
6. Nutrition and Health Management for Cow-Calf Operations
7. Optimizing forage production
8. Artificial Insemination School–usually in Corvallis
9. Managing Internal Parasites in Small Ruminants
10. Buffers between grazing sheep and leafy crops augment food safety
11. Equipment Maintenance and Haying Equipment
12. Reproduction in beef cattle
13. Fertilizing Hayfields and Pastures, etc.

OSU will strive to hold at least one training session in Lincoln County each year for those who sign up. If you are interested in getting these period update, please sign up by sending an email to  kathy.buisman@oregonstate.edu
with the email you want signed up or she can use the email that comes off the message you send.
