Free meals for kids over the summer….

Free Meals Offered to Children During Summer Months

Just as learning does not end when school lets out, neither does a child’s need for good nutrition.
Children 18 and younger may receive free meals and snacks at several different Lincoln County locations through the Summer Food Service Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The program provides free, nutritious meals and snacks to help children get the nutrition they need to learn, play, and grow throughout the summer months when they are out of school.

The meals and snacks are supplied by Lincoln County School District’s food service provider, Sodexo, which is an equal opportunity provider.

Local Seafood in Lincoln County

Local Ocean (541-574-7959) in Newport is my happy place. Its display case of fresh fish is a celebration of Oregon's bounty. The servers are informed and enthusiastic. Local Ocean works with more than 50 local fishing boats to provide the freshest seafood on the Oregon coast in their restaurant and seafood market. Their canned tuna lists exactly where the tuna was caught, how and by which boat.

Ocean Bleu at Gino's Fish Market and Cafe (541-265-2424) in Newport sells fish from its own boat and buys fish directly from the docks and sells it to you. It also makes the best Dungeness crab Benedict I've ever had.

Rogue Brewery partners with Bornstein seafoods to serve a local seafood menu at its Newport locations. It also celebrates its Newport roots with a seasonal crab porter from Dungeness crab as well as an oyster stout.

When he's not out fishing, local fisherman and owner Robert Anthony greets his customers at the door of Luna Sea Fish House (541-547-4794) in Yachats. Dressed in foul-weather gear, he may have just returned from catching your lunch. He catches the salmon, tuna, halibut and crab himself.
