Value-Added Producer Grant (VAPG) application deadline is August 29

New template available for small VAPG grants!

This year may be the best year ever for Oregon farmers, ranchers, fishers, and foresters who add value to the agricultural commodities they raise/harvest. That’s because USDA Rural Development’s VAPG program has more funds to award than ever before and the application process has been simplified. Read more about this here: http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/or/biz/VAPG_2011best.pdf

But the deadline for applications is fast approaching – Monday, August 29, 2011.

The good news is that RD-Oregon has just released a consolidated, simplified template for producers who applying for working capital grants of $49,999 or less – probably the simplest and most beneficial type of VAPG assistance. You can find this template here: http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/or/biz/VAPGnarrativetemplate2011_smallWC.doc

We know that August is a terribly busy month for Oregon producers, but if you can find the time, this opportunity has the potential to be very worthwhile.

For full details on the VAPG program, please visit: http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/or/vapg.htm

Help Us Form the New Lincoln Co. Local Foods Group

Are you interested in strengthening access to
local foods, farms and fisheries?
Are you interested in shaping the direction
of Lincoln County’s food system?

Please join us:
Wednesday, January 19th
1:30pm to 3:30pm
Lincoln County Extension Office Conference Room
(29 SE 2nd Street, Newport)

The Lincoln County Extension Office is sponsoring this gathering with the goal of pulling like-minded people together to form a community group focused on food and agriculture in Lincoln County.

We will be joined by Sharon Thornberry, Community Resource Developer for Oregon Food Bank and recipient of the 2009 Billi Odegaard Public Health Genius Award for her work on strengthening food systems throughout Oregon and by Jeff Feldner, Oregon Sea Grant Extension Fisheries and Seafood Specialist who will speak on ways to integrate our seafood industry into the local foods movement.

We hope this group will set strategies and goals for strengthening our local food system. What would you like to see accomplished by a group focused on supporting Lincoln County community food efforts? How would you increase awareness and access to local foods and agriculture? This is your opportunity to share your ideas and take action to make them happen.

For more information or questions please contact Chloe Rico, chloe.rico@occc.cc.or.us, 541-867-8672
