OSU Extension Service Food Preservation

Plan ahead! This is the time of year that I most appreciate my extra efforts in July and August. It always seems like it is "too hot" in the summer to be in the kitchen canning. This morning, though, I really enjoyed my toast with my own blackberry jelly. Last summer I bought a flat of blackberries from my local farm-stand. I made blackberry jam and jelly using the pectin recipes. I also canned blackberries, syrup and pie filling from the OSU Extension recipes on our website. Use Clear Jel for the pie filling (available at most OSU Extension offices). Set aside a day this summer to can your favorite berry products to share and enjoy all year round.

The Yachats Farmers' Market!

Starting May 11 through October 19, the market will be open every Sunday from 9am-2pm on 4th Street next to the Yachats Commons.

Capital Press editorial: OSU Extension Centennial

The service became an “extension” of the educational institutions, delivering the product of their research directly to the field through an army of agents and experts. Over the years the service’s mission expanded to include programs for homemakers, youth and rural development.
The service played an invaluable role in making science-based agricultural practices the standard on most farms across the country, increasing productivity and profitability. It has made American agriculture the envy of the world.
