Foodies Film Series
Join Ten Rivers Food Web for the 2nd Foodies Film Series taking place Tuesday evenings, January 22nd through February 12th, at 6pm at Café Mundo in Newport (corner of NW 2nd Ct.
& Coast Street in Nye Beach). The free series will feature four
food-focused films that highlight food systems issues in our community
and country. Thank you to Café Mundo for hosting the series! Make sure
to try their accompanying dinner special with each film. We also
recommend calling Café Mundo (541-574-8134) ahead of time to reserve a table.
Jan. 22nd
FRESH: The Movie, 72 minutes
The underground documentary that became a massive grassroots success, FRESH is
the embodiment of the good food movement. The film celebrates the
farmers, thinkers, and business people around the United States who are
reinventing our food system. Forging healthier, sustainable
alternatives, they offer a practical vision for the future of food and
our planet.
Jan. 29th
Food Stamped, 63 minutes
An
informative and humorous film following a couple as they attempt to eat
a healthy, well-balanced diet on a food stamp budget. They consult with
members of the U.S. Congress, food justice organizations, nutrition
experts, and people living on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance
Program, formerly known as Food Stamps) to take a deep look at America’s
food system. For this screening, please bring a non-perishable item to
donate to Food Share of Lincoln County.
Feb. 5th
Truck Farm, 48 minutes
Using green roof technology, filmmaker Ian Cheney (Director of King Corn)
plants a vegetable garden on the only land he’s got - the back of his
Granddad’s old pickup truck. Once the mobile garden begins to sprout,
viewers are trucked across New York to see the city’s funkiest urban
farms and to find out if America’s largest city can learn to feed
itself.

Eating Alaska, 57 minutes
What happens to a city-dwelling vegetarian who moves to Alaska and marries a commercial fisherman and deer hunter?Eating Alaska is
a film about connecting to where you live and eating locally. Made by a
former city dweller now living on an island in Alaska and married to a
fisherman, deer hunter, and environmental activist, it is a journey into
food politics, regional food traditions, our connection to the
wilderness, and to what we put into our mouths.
